Filipinos Conquered Japan - Lining New Japan Open BossTokyo, Japan - Filipinos conquered Japan through the billiard table, this as Antonio "Nickoy" Lining took top honors in the just concluded 2006 Japan Open 9-Ball Billiards Championship.
Lining defeated compatriot Don Don Razalan, who took home Y600,000 or approximately $5,000, in the finals with the score of 9-3. Before the all-Filipino final, Nickoy bested the Filipino legend and defending champion, Efren "The Magician" Reyes in the tune of 9-4 in the quarterfinals.
Antonio took home Y1,500,000 or around $13,000 for winning the event.
Filipinos Dominates The US Bar Table Championship - Orcullo Wins 2nd US Title This Year
Sands Regency Hotel and Casino, Reno, NV - Filipino billiard sensation, Dennis Orcullo, just asserted his newly found superstar status as he topped 227 players to win the 8-Ball Division of the US Bar Table Championship. This is after Orcullo won the World (9-Ball) Championship Bar Table Tournament last month.
It was again an all-Filipino final as Dennis won over Canada-based Filipino Edwin Montal in the finals with a lopsided score of 5-1. Dennis won for himself $10,000 for winning the 8-ball event while Edwin earned $6,000 for finishing second.
A couple of days before, Orcullo also pocketed $1,500 when he ended 4th in the 9-Ball Division. In the 9-ball event, Montal also finished 2nd losing 9-6 to Mike Davis in the finals earning for himself $5,000. The 9-ball event was contested by 127 players.
The US Bar Table Championships was held March 1 - 5, 2006.
